The Cloth Nappy "What Size" Guide

What size cloth nappy should I get? This a pretty common question. Most cloth nappies are either a newborn nappy, or a “one size” cloth nappy. A newborn nappy would generally fit for the first 6 weeks. This of course depends on the size your baby is when he is born, or how rapidly he gains weight.

A one size cloth nappy is some times called a birth to potty nappy (or BTP) but I find that term is a little misleading, as these nappies would rarely fit well from birth. Instead these nappies would generally fit from about 6 weeks up to 3 years of age. How is that even possible?

Disposable Nappies- The Statistics

Here are the hard and fast facts on single-use disposable nappies. You might need to sit down for this. Each disposable nappy is going to last for an estimated 400-500 years in landfill. That means that the first Pampers nappies ever used the 1960’s are still out there somewhere, in landfill, with another 400 or so years to go.

How Many Cloth Nappies Do You Need?

A fairly common question when discussing reusable cloth nappies for the first time, is “How many cloth nappies do I need?”

Well firstly, before we get into the number for full time use, it’s really important to discuss part time use. Cloth nappies don’t need to be an all-or-nothing scenario. As mentioned before in some of our other blog posts, a disposable nappy is going to be hanging around in landfill for up to 500 years. Disposable nappies are filling Irish landfills at a shocking rate of 400,000,000 to 500,000,000 per year...

Why We Created Our Own Cloth Nappy

Why We Created Our Own Cloth Nappy

Why we created our very own nappy! An Irish brand for Eco babies.

Reusable cloth nappies have countless environmental benefits, but they also have financial benefits too. That face can be quite hard to swallow at the beginning, because reusable cloth nappies are actually quite expensive! When you can purchase a supermarket own brand disposable nappy for just a few cent, it’s hard to justify how a €28 washable cloth nappy is better value. But remember a cloth nappy can be reused a couple of times a week for years...

My Journey into Cloth Nappies

My Journey into Cloth Nappies

This time 10 years ago, I was newly married with no children (yet). I always prided myself on being a good recycler, and my hatred of littering resulted in me stalking following fly-tippers many a time. I was involved in local clean up days where we gathered together and collected up every piece of litter we could find. But really my environmental awareness stopped there. Roll on 10 years

How to Wash your Cloth Nappies - Simplified

grew up hearing all sorts of horror stories about washing traditional terry cloth nappies. Soaking, boiling, all sorts of laborious washing routines, and secret competitions with the neighbours about who had the whitest terry nappies hanging out on the line. The reality has proven to be quite different for me. One of the first things people will say about cloth nappies is usually along the lines of “oh I wouldn’t manage all that washing”. Well firstly, most of us in Ireland wash our clothes with a washing machine! The washing machine really does do all the work.

Reusable Cloth Nappies Versus Disposable

As a big fan of reusable cloth nappies and a cloth nappy retailer, I have been in many discussions about cloth nappies and their comparisons to disposable nappies. With disposable nappies lasting up to 500 years in landfill after just a single use, it is hard to see that there could be an argument against reusable cloth nappies. Frustratingly, many people refer to some of the incorrect claims made by a scientific assessment in 2001 and 2002 about this very topic.
