All In One Cloth Nappy

All in One Cloth Nappy

An All in One cloth nappy is one of the main types of nappy. These nappies have absorbent inserts that are attached to a waterproof outer cover. These are a complete cloth nappy that would need to be changed fully each time. These reusable cloth nappies would normally be suited to daytime use.

All in One cloth nappies differ from pocket nappies in the way the inserts are attached. In a pocket nappy the inserts aren't attached, instead they go into a pocket on the waterproof outer

The benefits of an All in One nappy above a pocket nappy is that the inserts don't need to be removed before washing your cloth nappies. When your nappy wash is compete you don't need to peg each of the inserts and waterproof cover to the washing line. It is all attached together so it will require just 1 peg rather than 3. Making it time saving and space saving at laundry time.

How do you wash cloth nappies? Firstly the solids first. A disposable nappy liner will make this easy. Place the nappy in a wet bag until you are ready to do your nappy wash. When washing time comes simply pop the All In One nappy straight into the washing machine.

  • Do a cold rinse cycle with no detergent.
  • Do a 40 or 60 degree wash with detergent.
  • Don't use bleach.
  • Don't use fabric softener, and don't use detergents with added softeners.
  • You can tumble dry on low but this may eventually shorten the lifespan of your nappies.

How many cloth nappies will I need? Cloth nappies can be used part time. If you use just 2 cloth nappies each day, you would be saving 2000 disposable nappies from going into landfill by the time your baby begins potty training. If you would like to use cloth nappies full time then you would need about 20 daytime nappies and a few night time options. This would ensure you had enough nappies that you weren't under pressure to have them washed and dried in time for next use.

What size cloth nappy do I need? Most All in One cloth nappies are “one size” meaning they will fit from about 1 month or so up to about 3 years of age, thanks to the sizing poppers at the front of the nappy.

Fitted nappies would be a better night option and you will find them here.

If you would like to try a pocket nappy instead, you will find them here.

We created our own My Cotton Drawer bamboo Pocket nappies, you will find them here.
