They are a better option for the environment and a healthier option for your babies bums.
These environmentally friendly cloth nappies are washable, simply wash and reuse! The ultimate Zero Waste nappy.
What size cloth nappy do I need? Most cloth nappies are “one size” meaning they will fit from about 1 month or so up to about 3 years of age, thanks to the sizing poppers at the front of the nappy allowing you achieve a snug but comfortable fit. Sometimes this is also described as birth to potty, however we feel it is a little bit of a misleading term, as rarely would birth to potty nappies fit a newborn well. Their legs are just too skinny and tiny to get a good fit.
We do have cloth nappies specifically for newborns, you will find them here.
One of the big questions is usually how do you wash cloth nappies? It’s simple really. Remove the solids first and place the nappy in a wet bag until you are ready to do your nappy wash. If you are using disposable liners then removing the solids couldn’t be easier. When washing time comes place them all in the washing machine.
- Do a cold rinse cycle with no detergent.
- Do a 40 or 60 degree wash with detergent.
- Don't use bleach.
- Don't use fabric softener, and don't use detergents with added softeners.
- You can tumble dry on low but this may eventually shorten the lifespan of your nappies.
How many cloth nappies will I need? Cloth nappies don't need to be all or nothing. Even if you only switch 1 disposable nappy to a cloth nappy each day, you would be saving 1000 disposable nappies from going into landfill by the time your baby is out of the nappy wearing phase. If you would like to use cloth nappies full time then you would need about 20 daytime nappies and a few night time options. This would ensure you had enough nappies that you weren't under pressure to have them washed and dried in time for next use.
