Irish Cloth Nappies

We have our very own brand of pocket cloth nappies to fit babies from about 1 month of age up to 3 years of age. Each cloth nappy comes with 2 bamboo inserts, giving 8 layers in total of thirsty bamboo. Ireland is moving towards reusable cloth nappies slowly but surely, so you should give it a try.

An Irish Brand for Eco Babies.

The big question... How do you wash cloth nappies? Remove the solids first (Using a disposable liner will make this very simple) and place the nappy in a waterproof wet bag until you are ready for your nappy wash. When nappy laundry day comes, remove the inserts most of the way from the pocket of the nappy.

  • Do a cold rinse cycle with no detergent.
  • Do a 40 or 60 degree wash with detergent.
  • Don't use bleach.
  • Don't use fabric softener, and don't use detergents with added softeners.
  • You can tumble dry on low but this will eventually shorten the lifespan of your nappies.
  • It is best to line dry your nappies. The inserts will need a little tug to reshape them.

Another common question would be how many cloth nappies do I need? It really depends on how quickly you can turn over your nappies (ie have them washed, dried, and ready for their next use). Generally 20 cloth nappies would be a decent amount to ensure you never get caught out. It’s important to remember though that cloth nappies don't need to be all or nothing. Even if you only switch 2 disposable nappies to cloth nappies each day, you would be saving 2000 disposable nappies from going into landfill by the time your baby begins potty training.

What size cloth nappy do I need? Most cloth nappies, including these ones, are “one size” meaning they will fit from about 1 month or so up to about 3 years of age, thanks to the sizing poppers at the front of the nappy. Sometimes this is also described as birth to potty, however we feel it is a little bit of a misleading term, as rarely would birth tompotty nappies fit a newborn well. Their legs are just too skinny and tiny to get a good fit.

We do have cloth nappies specifically for newborns, you will find them here.

If you would like to try an All in One Cloth nappy instead, you will find them here.

Fitted nappies would be a better night option and you will find them here.
